Gaja Sorč is a Slovenian soprano, singer and performer active in opera, contemporary music theatre, musical theatre, concert repertoire and dubbing. She began her vocal training with Marjan Trček at the Rakovnik Music School and completed her vocal studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana with Barbara Jernejčič Fürst in 2018. She continued her training with Charlotte Lehmann, Martina Zadro, Ellen Rissinger, David Boothroyd, Alenka Slokar Bajc, Liora Maurer and Sharon Mohar. In 2018, she made her debut in the title role of Radovan Gobec’s operetta Hmeljska princesa. Further roles included the leading role of Julija in an opera by Aleš Makovac; Nella and Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Berlin Opera Academy; Minka and Tina in Tomaž Svete’s Hiša usmiljenja; Sandrina in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera; Nika in the opera Kit na plaži; Angela in the opera musical Kette; and Nada in the opera mystery Zločin v Blatnem dolu. In 2026, she also appeared in the Slovenian premiere of Nina Šenk’s chamber opera Platno at Cankarjev dom, followed by performances at SNG Maribor and the Piccolo Opera Festival in Gorizia. She performs regularly on the concert stage and in projects devoted to contemporary Slovenian music. Her appearances include the opening gala of the Imago Sloveniae festival at the Slovenian Philharmonic, national ceremonies, Teatro Verdi in Gorizia, and numerous solo, chamber, choral and orchestral projects. Her musical and music-theatre credits include Moje pesmi, moje sanje, Annie, Pepelka, Druščina, Mala nočna glasba and Veronika Deseniška. As a voice artist, she works with NVA, Ritem and VSI studios; she provided the Slovenian voice of Smurfette in the film Smrkci. She won First Prize at the Musica Goritiensis International Competition and Third Prize at both the Maria Labia and Francesco Paolo Neglia competitions. She was also a finalist at the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition. Her participation in the Berlin Opera Academy was supported by the Elizabeth Luxton Memorial Scholarship.
